Terms of use

Inkstone (硯) is run by Smart Growth Technologies, a business registered in Singapore (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or paying for a submission you agree to these terms.

What Inkstone is

Inkstone gives a calligraphy teacher and a student a private room where the student uploads photos of their practice and the teacher marks and comments on them. Each room has exactly one teacher and one student.

Teachers are independent. They set their own prices and decide what feedback to give. We provide the software, take payment from students and pay teachers.

Your account

You sign in with a link sent to your email address, so keep your email account secure. Give your real name or the name your teacher or student knows you by.

If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you and should help you manage payments.

Students

You pay when you submit, at the price shown before you pay. The price is set by your teacher, in your teacher's currency. Your bank may add its own charge for paying in another currency.

Refunds follow our Refund policy: a full refund if your teacher declines a submission, no refund once feedback has been delivered.

Teachers

You set a price per sheet for each paper format. You are paid by bank transfer once a month, in your price currency, for submissions whose feedback was delivered the month before.

Stripe's card fees are deducted from your share, and so is the platform commission shown in your Settings. There is no commission during the pilot. Your Earnings page shows each month's amount.

Please give us correct bank details for payouts. You are responsible for any tax on your earnings.

Your photos, feedback and messages

You keep ownership of what you upload or write. You allow us to store it, show it to the other person in your room, translate it, and analyse photos to recognise which copybook text was practised, only so that Inkstone works for you. We don't sell your content or use it for advertising.

Only upload what you have the right to share. Don't use Inkstone for anything unlawful, abusive or unrelated to learning calligraphy.

A service in its pilot

Inkstone is new and still changing. There may be interruptions and mistakes, including in machine translation; the teacher's original words are always available. We will tell you by email before any change to these terms that affects you.

Responsibility

We do our best to keep Inkstone working and your content safe, but we provide it as it is. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses, and our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid through Inkstone in the 12 months before the problem. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law.

Ending

You can stop using Inkstone at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms; we will tell you why and pay any amount already earned.

Law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of Singapore. Questions or complaints: [email protected].
